The same enigma appears when we ask ourselves where does the relationship of the memes of La Puta y El Gordito come from with the theme of the homonymous exhibition where Lucio Muniain reproduces images of the historic meeting between Donald J. Trump and the Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It is equally surprising to discover the infinity of unexpected connections that initially remain hidden and later reveal themselves with cadence in the consciousness and collective imagination.
Observation savviness is key in the work of Lucio Muniain, who has always known how to unravel the most intimate corners of the reality of Mexico in a stark and frontal way endowed with a dark and brutal sense of humor, drawing in virtuous lines, as black as his emblematic trash bags… black, shiny and wet yet always filled with surprises. In this exercise the only doubt which is clearly outlined with humorous ambiguity by Muniain is for the spectator to guess in each drawing and tribute of vain mutual admiration who is La Puta and who is El Gordito?
